This is not a manual - it's an outline of one of our skill-sets. These articles merely map or represent some of our skills. A map may be
frustrating if you feel lost and you need immediate solutions for pressing
problems. However, you can email us and we can talk with you by telephone or
online.

Developing Expertise ... Quickly
Our expert modeling provides a rapid and cost-effective
performance boost to individual and to organizational
productivity. We replicate and accelerate expert competence in many parts of
life. While we are known for using these skills in our work with emotions and
relationships, it applies as much to organizational development and
technological competence.
Expert Modeling: Phase 1
- Identify people with the desired competencies
- Elicit the vital components of expert behavior
- Decompose expert behavior into an overall model
- Decompose the overall expert model into strategies
Neither motivation nor knowledge
can ensure competence. Poor performance is more often due to disabling or
limiting beliefs, toxic
influences, trauma or low quality mentorship than to lack of motivation or
knowledge.
These activities provide a knowledge base of heuristics - of apparent behavioral micro-skills
(phase 1) that can be analyzed and sequenced into testable models
of competence (phase 2). We can then teach these expert models
(phase 3) to selected motivated learners using our accelerated learning
and systemic coaching methods (which are other expert models!).

What are Heuristics? |
Problem solving, learning and discovery. Rapidly finding a
solution that is hoped to be close to the best possible answer. A rule of
thumb, an educated guess, an intuitive judgment or simply common
sense. A general way of solving a problem.

Expert Modeling: Phase 2
A. Ensure expert performance
- Assess expert performance and results
- Observe the experts over time with similar tasks
- Assess the experts' performance and results over time
B. Synthesize components of expertise
- Construct basic or provisional models
- Divide the expert skills into a sequence
- Approximate relevant unconscious strategies
- Define the function of each modeled component
- Develop a hierarchy of essential or critical
components
C. Identify elements of the knowledge base
- Recognize heuristics
- Identify underlying structural patterns
- Identify the model's constraints and skill partitions
- Add all components to the knowledge base
D. Identify the critical components, hierarchy &
interconnections
- Show how components interlock
- Optimize the systemic components
- Define the feedback and feed-forward loops
- Interpret and integrate the critical components
- Devise methods to control the sequence
- Codify the interaction between components
- Discover redundancies and increase reliability
- Test and refine critical components
E. Test and refine the model with selected people
- When does student competence approach mastery?
- If a model is ineffective, elicit more information
F. Formulate a final model
- Test and revise the models to meet performance criteria
- If training candidates are screened, prepare for
phase 3
- If candidates are randomly selected, generalize the model
Isomorphic, Generative & Integrative Modeling
-
Isomorphic: Use model without
further improvement
-
Generative: Streamline model, enhance critical
components
-
Integrative: Combine elements from several expert
models
