Dreaming Together & Dreamwork
Martyn Carruthers developed Dreamwork as part of his systemic coaching.
His Dreaming
Together was inspired by native Hawaiian healers (Huna Kalani) and
Martyn's research of stable resource states and his development of interactive isomorphic metaphors.
In traditional hypnosis, a therapist uses authority and
suggestions to change a person's perceptions and beliefs, while
that person is physically and mentally relaxed. These suggestions may be
remembered unconsciously (often called post-hypnotic suggestions) as
relationship bonds - as compulsive
behaviors and beliefs needed to sustain the relationship with the hypnotist.
In systemic coaching, we treat authority, sincerity,
suggestion and advice with a little suspicion. If a person's objections
are ignored, unhealthy consequences can follow a hypnotist's or therapist's
well-meaning suggestions.
We consider unconscious objections to be a form
of body wisdom; and we help people voice, understand and befriend their
objections. And much advice is actually criticism. Together, a systemic
coach and client can find ways to incorporate objections into healthy
decisions.
Goal Hypnosis & Spontaneous Trance
If you consider what you REALLY want - you may become
dreamy. If asked for details - you may become ... ummm ... a bit ... ahhh
... foggy. This is an example of spontaneous trance. Spontaneous
trance is so common that Martyn sometimes refers to coaching people to
define goals as goal hypnosis.
We utilize spontaneous trance to help people clarify steps,
untangle emotions and relationships, and to resolve unwanted behavior.
Our Dreamwork also offers help for people with
psychosomatic conditions.
