Relationship Coaching
Do you want quality long-term relationships? Do you want relationships
that support long-term happiness? Can you imagine relationships in which you develop
your highest values and express your deepest qualities? This is our work.
We coach people to develop quality relationships in all these areas.
Sooner or later, relationship coaching will be right for you.
When you want to resolve a crisis, to avoid worsening conflicts or
to improve an already-good relationship. If you assume that you can get
along without relationship coaching, you may end potentially wonderful relationships;
you may suffer for years; and you may never experience the lasting happiness
that could have so easily been yours.
Many coaches, counselors and therapists advertise relationship coaching.
Here are some questions to ask when choosing what relationship
coaching is best for you, and an appropriate relationship coach:
Questions to ask Relationship Coaches ... and our answers
- Why did they become relationship coaches?
- What do they really offer?
- What have they published about their experience?
- What percentage of their practice is relationship coaching?
- What techniques of relationship coaching do they use?
- Will they describe a typical session?
- Will they help you resolve problems?
- Will we help you have better relationships?
- How long, on average, is their relationship coaching?
- Will they meet you together or only individually?
1. How did we become relationship coaches?
In 1988, we started providing success coaching and expert
modeling in sport, business and education.
By 1992 we noticed that the most profound limitations and blocks to
progress, success and development were usually relationship issues - even
relationships from the distant past.
Family traditions and office politics, previous
commitments and promises, abandoned responsibilities and reckless love
affairs ... all these contribute to relationship chaos. And in organizations; mergers and
near-bankruptcies; lay-offs and takeovers can scar both
management and employees.
We specialize in relationship management. We can commit
ourselves to
your relationship goals.
2. What does Soulwork Relationship Coaching offer you?
Soulwork systemic coaching is open-ended
and goal-oriented. We encourage you to clarify old relationships and set clear relationship goals.
We help you take specific, concrete steps to co-create wonderful relationships.
We discuss your goals, complaints, history and dreams;
and we help you focus on your contributions, responsibilities and
next steps. We can help you build appropriate intimacy and connection.
3. What have we written about our specialties?
We posted over 500 articles and resources about
our systemic relationship coaching. Read some of our articles on partnership,
parenthood, relationship management and business consulting.

4. How much of our practice is relationship coaching?
Our systemic coaching is split between coach training,
individual coaching and systemic (couple, family and team) coaching. Many individual issues
require couple coaching - and systemic coaching can
resolve individual issues. At least 50% of our practice is coaching people to
resolve relationship issues and subsequent emotional challenges. We now spend
much of our time training coaches.
5. What kind of relationship coaching do we use?
Systemic relationship coaching is ... systemic. Even simple
systems may require complex coaching strategies. For
example, a married couple may wish to "make love not war". Yet each partner
brings all their previous relationships into the marriage - including parents
and past partners. Systemic coaching helps you discover exactly where you are
now ... and exactly what each of you wants.
6. Can we describe a typical relationship coaching session?
Usually we meet people individually, to discuss
goals and prepare for simultaneous relationship coaching together, if needed. Individual
sessions help you to identify your key goals and complaints
privately and without interference. Later, couple, family or team coaching can
resolve systemic issues.
7. Will we help you resolve relationship problems?
Yes. In systemic relationship coaching, we notice
how past problems and expected future difficulties show up in current
relationships. We can coach you to either express thoughts or emotions
about the past or future - and deal wit the conflicts and discussions
that candor and honesty provoke.
8. Will we help you have better relationships?
Yes. We can show you how to develop relationship skills and
coach people in: Family; Friendship; Teamwork; Partnership; Parenthood
and Community. We can offer you homework to reinforce learning. We
can help you continue your relationship journey. We coach people to
coach each other!
9. How long does a relationship require coaching?
We provide short-term relationship coaching -
usually 3-10 sessions. Longer-term mentorship is available,
to fine-tune ongoing relationship
challenges. Added time may be required if one or more people have
significant individual issues that limit participation
in an important relationship.
10. Will we meet you individually or together?
We repeatedly find that individual coaching is needed
for long-term happiness. We provide individual coaching to
each adult member of a relationship system; and certainly with each
partner of a partnership. We also coach leaders of teams, organizations and
communities individually.
Later we prefer to work with both partners together; or with
teams - with as many members of the
team as possible - together. But first we find it better to sort out individual
blocks and issues privately.
