What is Systemic Coaching?

Classical coaching is useful when individuals make decisions in controllable environments with simple objectives. Systemic coaching is useful when making relationship decisions, especially in complex environments or with ambiguous objectives.

Systemic coaching can help you solve complex relationship problems. Managers, executives and professionals can get measurable performance and productivity increases using systemic coaching.

What is Systemic Coaching?

A human relationship system is an organization of people, such as friends, families, teams, businesses, communities and governments. Human systems are empowered and limited by systemic rules, which are rarely obvious or intuitive. Systems theory and systemic rules can be confusing. In some systems it is against the rules to discuss the rules ... or even to know the rules!

Like consulting, systemic coaching is outcome oriented, dealing in visions, action plans, inspiration and feedback. Unlike consulting, systemic coaching provides structure, support and feedback as we help you remove blocks, attain goals and realize visions. Systemic coaching provides process expertise, rather than content knowledge. We coach people in human systems to identify, create, locate and acquire missing knowledge and skills. We coach human systems to change.

Systems Theory . Chaos Theory

A human system finds knowledge and produces skills for use by members of that system. Members can also use skills developed or acquired by the system during an earlier time. However, members may be unable to use or even consider skills developed by more complex systems.

Members of a trade union may not understand nor appreciate the more complex skills used by upper management. Even within a simple system, relationship management is a necessity. Get coaching!

How does Systemic Coaching work?

Systemic Coaching begins with diagnosis - we talk about your goals, your relationships and your history. Then we discuss your costs and benefits. Then we use meetings, e-mails and telephone calls to support your chosen goals. Subsequent steps focus on what works (not what's wrong) and on future solutions (not past problems). This leads to positive, pragmatic change strategies with minimal undesirable side-effects.

A systemic coach need not be in the same business, the same community or even the same country as you. A coach from outside the systems in which you live and work can provide better objectivity and perspective - and out of the box strategies.

Systemic coaching helps you clarify situations, strategies and goals. Systemic coaching helps you evaluate resources and find steps to achieve your goals. You develop your control and responsibility. You know your environment, the participants and the rules. A coach can help you articulate and challenge rules, while you gain clarity, make decisions and follow through.

What does Systemic Coaching offer?

Systemic coaching models

A model is only as useful as the accuracy of its predictions. Systemic coaching begins with needs assessment and outcome specification. Well-formed outcomes and goals help you create ideas for their fulfillment and motivates your actions to realize them.

A belief audit helps you examine your blocks or challenges. Some of your beliefs will change spontaneously as you align with your goals and values. Systemic coaching models that generate powerful choices include relationship matrices, timelines, organizational development, reframing, perceptual positions, relationship hierarchies and logical levels of abstraction.
